What recourse do we have against a professional photographer?

We paid up front (stupid) for newborn photos and the photographer has failed to give up the pictures. We’ve set up times to pick them up and at the last second she makes up reasons why we can’t get them. We’ve told her to mail them and she delays. How can we get our money back or get our photos?

Show up at her business unannounced and tell her you want the photos or a refund right now.
If you paid by credit card, your credit card company may be able to help you. Some are better than others at being willing to assist consumers with disputes.
i used to be a pro photog. and this one is besmirching that profession; thus–
visit unannounced and then, volunteer that you are going to the BBB and atty
general.
but first, solve the 1 in 100 problem–
she may have had a family emergency or theft. GIVE her a chance to explain –
if she is on drugs………..or is not able to respond, take legal action.
Agree with advice about getting your credit card company to help, also about small claims court. You can also report them to the Better Business Bureau.
It sounds to me like your photographer is being very unethical, here. You paid for the pictures, you should have the pictures.
Small claims court is probably your only real solution. Good luck.
