Scanning baby photos: What quality of scanner is best?

I’d like to scan all printed baby photos of everyone in my family onto the computer. What quality of scanner will do the best job? What scanner? I don’t want to have to redo them! lol How many Resolution dpi or whatever is best? Any good softwares to make this process easier? HELP :d:d:

HP Scanjet G4010
I’m using a Canon MP620 – it’s a three way. Scanner, copier and printer. I usually 600 for scanning photos and it works very well. Usually a scanner will come with its own software that allows resolution settings and you can "over scan", that is get the resolution so high the file size becomes extra large.
You don’t really need to do that.
Once you have your scanner, what ever brand, do some tests and look at the scanned photo and it’s quality. If you’re satisfied do them all the same way.
