I recently bought the Canon Powershot A550 as it was affordable, 5 AUD.
Its good and everything but I was wondering if anyone could give me tips on doing photography with a normal digital camera, not one of those expensive ones.
Like techniques and ideas.
thanks

Your camera doesn’t have to have all the bells and whistles to make good photographs. You can make some very creative photos just using the auto settings on a basic digital camera. It all depends on the way you frame your photos, the lighting, and the subject itself. Check out the many digital photo contest sites online and see what the other photographers are doing. Take lots of pictures each time you use your camera with the intention of throwing out any or all if they don’t look as good as you want them to look. Digital photography makes it easy to learn as you go since you have the freedom to erase and retake photos many times. Don’t expect instant art from your efforts. It takes some time to develop your own style.
When you get more into photography, you might want to get a better camera. You still don’t have to get a DSLR to take quality photos. There are some very good digital cameras on the market for $500 and under. (USD)
Oh, and the most important tip of all-relax and enjoy the experience each time you set out to take photographs.
Here are some good techniques you can use until you buy an adjustable camera (35mm or DSLR).

Well first off read the manual to see all the settings and what is possible with your camera!!
Leran how to set "aperture priority" and why. Learn to set "shutter priority" and why. Good light helps a lot. Good composition and focus can be done with any camera.
