How often do newborn babies cry during the day?

And do they need to constantly be held? Can you put them in the crib when they are not tired? Best answer goes to the person who has the most info about a newborn baby’s average day. Thanks!

There is no ‘Average’ newborn.
They don’t need to be held all day, my daughter has sessions of tummy time and sits in her bouncer alot while I’m doing things.
She doesn’t cry much at all, but some cry constantly.
