How do i get certain items in colour in a black & white photo?
i am new to photography and i am wondering how do you get a photograph with just one section in colour and the rest in black and white?? you know, say it is a black and white photo of a baby and just their hat is in colour or just their eyes are…..i do some photoshopping at home on my computer and was wondering what type of software is avalable for this and/or what is the official term for this being done in photographs?

First of all, never shoot in B&W with digital. You can’t get the color info back in a jpeg. And you would have let the camera decide how you want the photo tonally, and it never gets it right. Shoot in color and convert later.
If you’ve already shot, in B&W, then you can’t get the color back. You’ll have to carefully tint the areas you want in color, keeping in mind that it won’t look natural, but it won’t look awful either. Just obviously done.
If you have a color photo, then you can make the B&W on a new layer and then erase the part you want to keep in color. Download GIMP and look up a tutorial for selective color. You should find plenty of tutorials on youtube.
you’ll need a photo editing program.
photoshop will do.
