How do I find work as a photographer's assistant?

This summer I would like work as a photographer’s assistant, hopefully for a photographer who is interested in the same subject matter that I am (nature, landscapes, unusual locations). How would I find a photographer who needs an assistant?
I do photography too but I am primarily a college student and not a published artist.

if you are looking for an internship, find photographers in your area and email them with a resume and sample work and some interested in your help will email you back. that is what i did and now that my internship is over with the photographer some times i work as a paid assistant for the photographer when needed.
Well, photographers are not usually paid much unless they work commercially or for portraits. Your best bet in that case would be to look into magazines, local newspapers and magazines (like a weekender, real estate, advertising and promotion companies, etc.) but usually artistic photographers just have friends help them or they go solo. It just kind of depends on what type of work they need help with. You could try craigslist too, under "community" and then "artists".
