Are those cute-kid/cute-baby photo contests scams? Any of them legit?

Just wondering if anyone has entered a cute kid or baby photo contest where you did NOT have to pay to enter? Or, did you pay to enter and actually win? I wonder which ones are scams and which are legit. Anyone?

General rule of thumb: If you have to pay its a scam. That goes for work at home ideas as well as baby contests. Does that mean that there’s not a winner? No, they probably do crown a winner, based on the voting criteria they set aside, but the amount they pay the winner is going to be a sliver of what they’ve raked in for fees. Plus, they collect lots of personal information that you can be sure gets sold to marketing firms and will definitely increase the amount of junk mail in your home mailbox as well as your email box.
Are there legit contests? Yes, they’re usually run by companies that you’ve heard of like American Baby Magazine (who I believe has one going on now), other magazines, and baby product companies like Huggies and Pampers.
But you have to think about what you’re really looking to get out of something like that. You and your family already think your child is the most beautiful child, so they don’t need to be convinced by winning some contest. If its the prize money you will be sorely disappointed because no one is becoming a millionaire from baby contests (except the people running them).
I entered my daughter in the GReat American Photo Contest. The winner is decided by votes from your family and friends. It’s free, but they will contact you after you enter, asking if you want to enter the same picture in their Fame and Fortune contest for $20. I did it just for fun, but they never took the money from my account, so every month I have to assume they are gonna take it, because I can’t retract my authorization (or so the bank says). And I never did ask anybody to vote for my daughter because it seemed like they had to give up their info (like email address), and I didn’t want to be responsible for their emails being full of spam.
It was a cute idea, and my daughters beautiful, but my advice to you is be wary, and think about it very carefully.
